Housing, Infrastructure, Planning and Development Unit

The Housing, Infrastructure, Planning and Development Unit (HIPDU) has been established within the Department of Trade and Investment to facilitate infrastructure provision for housing developments across the state. Ensuring that infrastructure is well planned and coordinated early in the development process will enable faster, more efficient and better planned communities. The aim is to remove barriers to development by providing certainty and transparency to the development industry to fast track the delivery of housing and enable South Australia to achieve national housing targets.

The HIPDU team functions as a growth areas coordination unit and is responsible for delivering state led growth areas to increase housing supply, which includes establishing infrastructure delivery tools as part of the land use planning process.

It is imperative that we continue to build on our nation leading planning system by equipping the state with the infrastructure planning and delivery framework to promote and support continued investment in our progressive state.

The Unit will collaborate with industry, local government, state agencies and essential service providers to develop approaches that meet the needs of all stakeholders whilst protecting our natural resources and heritage.
