South Australia links into NYC innovation hub

South Australia is strengthening its relationship with a New York City-based innovation hub, which has links to facilities across Singapore, Amsterdam, Paris, Tokyo, and Pittsburgh.

Trade Minister Nick Champion toured Tata Consultancy Services’ (TCS) Pace Port™ New York last week, with an aim to boost the company’s relationship with South Australia and drive further investment into the State.

One of the world’s largest IT companies, TCS is headquartered in Mumbai and has six offices across Australia.

TCS is already established in South Australia, working with the financial services and energy sectors, and is working with the South Australian Government’s Chief Information Officer and the Department of Education to rollout a STEM program for senior school students.

The TCS goIT program will engage South Australian students from diverse backgrounds to bridge the learning curve with STEM, computer science, design thinking and global innovation.

TCS has its own innovation centre at the Ivy League University, Cornell Tech, which will provide invaluable insights and connections as the State Government works towards forming its own world-leading university, and its collaboration agreement with MIT signed last week in Massachusetts.

Located at the Tata Innovation Centre, TCS Pace Port™ New York is part of a global ecosystem of innovation facilities spread across the globe. Its facilities connect individuals across multiple sectors to co-create and co-innovate with research and innovation leaders, contextual masters, academic experts and start-ups.

The meeting further builds South Australia’s connections to India, in line with federal government efforts to strengthen the relations between our two nations following the Australian-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement that came into effect in December last year.

Minister Champion’s meeting in New York also follows an announcement by International think tank Horasis, indicating it would hold its first-ever Australian summit in Adelaide in November, bringing together 250 business leaders from across the globe, for a three-day trade and investment conference.
