Showcasing South Australia’s food and beverages at FOODEX
South Australia’s premium produce will be showcased at Asia’s biggest food and beverage event as part of FOODEX Japan in Tokyo, opening the door to new trade and investment opportunities ahead of the upcoming World Expo in Japan.
As part of a ‘Tasting South Australia Exhibit’, supported by the Department of State Development, more than 20 South Australian businesses will have their produce on show to more than 80,000 visitors over four days.
Participating South Australian businesses range from meat, honey, pastry, seafood, wine, spirits, specialty fine foods, and fruit juice industries.
A series of live cooking shows will be held at FOODEX where visitors will get a taste of South Australia’s premium meat, featuring lamb from Thomas Foods International (TFI), pipis from Goolwa Pipi Co and kangaroo meat from Macro Meat. The cooking demonstrations will be hosted by Ambassador Chef Koji Fukuda and paired with South Australian wine commentary from Ambassador Sommelier Seiji Kobayashi.
FOODEX comes just a month before the World Expo in Osaka, which will run from April to October 2025 and is expected to draw more than 28 million visitors.
The World Expo is one of the oldest and largest international events, held around every five years since 1851.
Through a gold partnership with the Australian Government, the South Australian Government will be part of the Australia Pavilion and will feature South Australia’s world-class meat, wine, spirits and honey brands available for purchase throughout the World Expo.
Both events will build on the state’s strong trade relationship with Asia’s largest markets, including Japan, China, Hong Kong and South Korea.
In 2024, South Australia’s food and beverage companies exported 29 per cent more goods to Northeast Asia than the previous year, up to $2.7 billion.
