Influential international business leaders in the food, retail, manufacturing and hospitality supply chain had the opportunity to taste some of South Australia’s premium food, wine and beverages at a special event held as part of World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan.

The ‘Tasting South Australia: Signature Dinner’, was held at the Australia Pavilion, of which the South Australian Government is a Gold Partner.

The South Australian Government is leveraging the food-themed week at World Expo, the largest global expo of its kind, to grow the state’s $7.21 billion food and beverage export industry.

Some of South Australia’s produce that will be featured at the Australia Pavilion and nearby food cabin throughout the six months of events include:

  • 1,500 glasses of South Australian wine
  • 448 cartons of South Australian beer
  • 3,200 cups of South Australian tea
  • 165kgs of South Australian kangaroo, lamb and beef

South Australian companies participating at World Expo’s food-themed week include:

Almondco, Angove Family Wines, Australian Southern Bluefin Tuna Industry Association (ASBTIA), Beerenberg, Buzz Honey, Chaffey Bros Wine Co., Costa Group, Creative Native Foods, Coopers, Dinko Seafoods, Elderton Wines, Ferguson Australia, Goolwa Pipi Co, Heirloom Vineyards, Langmeil Winery, Longridge Olives, Macro Group Australia, Maine Beach, Metala Wines, Old Jarvie, Organic Hill, Prancing Pony, Pristine Oyster Farm, Prohibition Liquor Co., Pure Origins, T Bar Tea, Taralli Continental Biscuits, Thomas Foods International, Woodside Cheese Wrights and Yumbah Aquaculture.

The following day, South Australia hosted a live culinary showcase, celebrating one of the state’s most iconic exports to Japan, Southern Bluefin Tuna, presented by the Australian Southern Bluefin Tuna Industry Association (ASBTIA).

This unique experience featured a traditional Japanese tuna cutting ceremony and live cooking demonstration, paired with wine from South Australia’s largest wine company, Vinarchy, who are a sponsor of the Australia Pavilion.

Recently, ASBTIA was named the first Southern Bluefin Tuna fishery in the world to be certified by the Marine Stewardship Council earlier this year. The certification recognises the industry’s world-leading sustainability – adding to its status as a globally renowned and celebrated pristine seafood product.

Japan is the largest market in the world for South Australian Southern Bluefin Tuna, with the state exporting $58.3 million worth to Japan in the year to April 2025.

South Australia’s involvement at World Expo 2025 is made possible through its $1 million Gold Partnership to highlight the state’s offerings to a global audience.
