International ambassadors get a taste of South Australia

05 May 2025
More than 100 South Australian wine producers will showcase their brands this week to influential global wine importers visiting the state.

Members of the South Australian Wine Ambassadors Club (SAWAC), an international network of wine advocates, will have the opportunity to taste some of the state’s best wines, raising the profile, reputation and awareness of South Australia’s wine globally.

The four-day program (4-8 May), will see importers from Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam and Thailand, take part in an intensive program visiting Adelaide Hills, Barossa, Clare Valley and McLaren Vale.

Wine producers from other regions, including the Riverland, Langhorne Creek and the Limestone Coast will also have the opportunity to exhibit to the importers at an event at the National Wine Centre.

The SAWAC importers will also spend time learning about what makes South Australia’s wine regions world renowned, and will visit iconic venues including Shaw + Smith, Seppeltsfield Barossa and Dandelion Vineyards’ Wonder Room.

As members of SAWAC, importers are required to import at least one new-to-market wine brand in the first year of membership and participate in promotional events to support brands in-market.

Now in its third year, SAWAC has recruited 65 importers across the eight key diversification markets throughout the Asia-Pacific region to grow South Australian wine exports.

Since being established nearly two and a half years ago, the SAWAC program has supported 75 additional wine brands to break into six new global markets, delivering $2.14 million in first export orders.
